Leet Inkwell Skillz

I’m a lot of things, most of which are tragically uninteresting. When it came down to wanting to write a blog and exercise some of the writing talent that I thought I had during college, that was a problem! Fortunately, World of Warcraft blogs are all the rage, and I can totally do that! I also program, mostly on Macintosh now, and BSD/Linux systems in my past life as a lowly graduate student. The rest of what I have to say will have to keep inflicting itself upon my unsuspecting therapists. I mean guildies!

More concretely, who am I? I’m a master’s-educated female engineer who has been playing way too much World of Warcraft since about mid-2007. I grew up on computers, back when FidoNET and local BBSes were all the rage, and was a very voracious consumer of internet culture all through my teens and twenties. That interest developed into two personality-defining things: An addiction to IRC, then MUDs, then WoW; and programming.

So here are the languages I’ve dabbled in over the years, just to establish some sort of baseline for credibility: C, C++, Java, Perl, PHP, Bash/sh scripting, some Python, ye olde school-mandated MC68HC11 ASM, and my latest love, Objective-C. Don’t ask me to do Prolog. Please.

From a WoW perspective, I’m forever an officer, never a GM, having been an officer in both progression-focused guilds that I have been a member of since Karazhan. Currently, I am one of the officers of Blood Red Moon, a 25-man raiding guild on US-Zul’jin-A. I raid, as I have since I started, as a restoration druid. The semi-famous Borsk is my guild and raid leader. I also raid with my girlfriend, another resto druid named Tlazolteotl. We compete for loot, which is always amazing!

I hope you enjoy what I have to say here on my little blog. As I write this, the first page of my new site, I’m hoping that what I can write will be interesting, enjoyable, and not quickly-forgotten.
